HEAVY-DUTY VERTICAL MACHINING CENTER FEATURES UNIQUE T-BED DESIGN FOR OVERHANG-FREE CUTTING AND MAXIMUM RIGIDITY

YCI Supermax, a leading manufacturer of CNC and conventional machine tools, has introduced its new heavy duty, high-speed V158B vertical machining center. Uniquely proficient for tough, heavy applications in the mold and die and automotive industries, the V158B is a value-added machine that job shop owners can use to handle a variety of applications.

The V158B features a unique T-shaped base pattern design. The entire base is constructed from a one-piece MeehaniteÒ casting that provides optimum structural stability. In addition, the T-bed design provides overhang-free cutting and excellent cutting rigidity. Customers can use the machine’s 10,000 RPM, 40 HP Isolated Direct Drive (IDD) 2-speed spindle or a 6,000 RPM, 30HP 2-speed geared-head spindle to meet their application needs. With the unique IDD spindle design, the spindle motor is directly coupled to the spindle unit, eliminating the noise, backlash, and vibration that are normally found on a spindle driven by belts or gears. In addition, the high-speed, high-power spindle can cut aluminum as well as super-tough steel.

The V158B’s X-axis travel of 59" and Y-axis travel of 33.8" provide for a roomy working envelope. Z-axis travel is 27.5". Additionally, the unique Z-axis slide-way design provides for superior cutting rigidity. The shorter distance between ball screws and the slideway surface eliminates "bent movement" on ball screws, providing a smoother headstock movement during heavy cutting operations. Table size is 66.9" x 33.8" with a load capacity of 4,400 lbs. Table positioning accuracy is ± 0.00016" with repeatability of ± 0.00008".

Additional machine features include full chip guards, an automatic central lubrication system, heavy-duty coolant pump and free-standing coolant tank, fast 24-tool swing arm ATC system (30 and 40 tools optional), and a spindle air blast system that protects the tool taper from chips and eliminates run-out caused by chips on tool shanks.
