ISOLATED DIRECT DRIVE SPINDLE DESIGN MAKES HORIZONTAL MACHINING CENTER IDEAL FOR JOB AND PRODUCTION SHOPS

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (October 9, 2000) —

YCI Supermax, a leading manufacturer of CNC and conventional machine tools, has introduced its new H500B Horizontal Machining Center for job and production shops. The system has a variety of productivity-enhancing features that make it ideal for high-volume applications.

The H500B’s unique Isolated Direct Drive (IDD) design provides a multitude of benefits over traditional designs. The spindle motor is directly coupled to the spindle unit, eliminating the noise, backlash, and vibration that are normally found on a spindle driven by belts or gears. In addition, the IDD design allows the CNC controller to get exact feedback of spindle speed to ensure the best performance of rigid tapping.

The H500B’s powerful 30 HP, 2-speed spindle motor provides low-end torque for heavy cutting. High production application is also enabled by the machine’s multi-pallet capability (8-second change time) and built-in rotary indexing pallet. Additional standard equipment includes an optical scale mounted on all three axes and a fast 40-tool swing arm ATC system. X-axis travel is 27.6", while Y and Z axis travel is 25.6". Table positioning accuracy is ± 0.00016" with repeatability of 0.00008".

To enhance spindle cutting rigidity, the spindle is a large 85mm in diameter and the spindle wall is 16mm in thickness. The H500B also features spindle air sealing, an advanced technology that prevents the spindle bearings from being contaminated by coolant mist and fine chips during high-speed cutting.
